A facelift is a surgical procedure that aims to rejuvenate and revitalize the face. It removes excess skin and tightens underlying muscles and tissues. Recovery from a facelift is a gradual process and varies according to the technique used, the surgeon’s experience, and the individual characteristics of each patient.

Stages of recovery from a facelift

During the first few days (0-7 days) it is common to experience swelling, bruising and moderate discomfort that can be controlled with painkillers and rest. It is recommended to keep the head elevated to minimize inflammation and avoid sudden movements that may compromise the operated area. It is essential to follow medical instructions to the letter to promote proper healing.

In the first to second week (7-14 days), most bruising and swelling begin to decrease significantly. During this period, the stitches are usually removed. This is generally done between the seventh and tenth day, allowing the patient to resume light daily activities. Although the patient can return to work and social activities, it is essential to avoid intense physical efforts that may delay recovery.

During the third to fourth week (15-30 days), inflammation is noticeably reduced and scars begin to lighten. It is advisable to continue with special care, such as sun protection and the use of creams prescribed by the specialist, to promote skin regeneration. At this stage, moderate exercise can be started gradually.

Over the course of the first three months after surgery, the healing process and the overall reduction of inflammation become increasingly evident.

The final result of a facelift is best seen after 6-12 months. Its rejuvenating effects can last between 7 and 15 years, depending on factors such as genetics, skin care and lifestyle.
